Thereโs been something special cooking in the Wild Women cauldron of late, and the brew is almost ready to share. So what better date to howl about it than International Womenโs Day?
Over the next 12 months, the Wild Women Writing Salons will bring together an amazing group of women memoirists and creative non-fiction authors, some publishing their debuts this year and some a bit further along the line.
What are the Wild Women Writing Salons?
The Wild Women Writing Salons are a fantastic chance to hear gorgeous readings, learn more about the books, and gain rare insight into the creative process and journeys to publication. And get access to top tips, and wild wisdom garnered along the way!
Each salon will be held on Zoom and recorded to create a free legacy resource for those who are maybe starting out on the road to publishing their own words.
We will announce our full programme very soon, but for now, take our word for it โ our 2023 line-up is an amazing collaboration of fantastic wild women and words.
Donโt forget to subscribe to this newsletter to get future information, updates on our events and guests, and some bonus goodies along the way.
How will the salons be accessible?
The zoom events/recordings will be subtitled - although I know it isnโt perfect, I will do my best to ensure there arenโt too many peculiar translations).
I know that as a full-time carer living with chronic illness and working from home, sometimes the usual event timings donโt work. The Wild Women Salons will be scheduled over various evenings, weekends, and weekdays to try and make them as accessible to everyone as we can manage.
It would be great to know what works for you?
How much will it cost?
I am passionate about nurturing spaces to share stories and create positive change in the world. Because of that, I make choices about what I can do to enable this. I am not wealthy. I do not have a second income or a secret benevolent patron. Right now, everything I do is voluntary, and I am incredibly grateful to all the women who have kindly agreed to support the programme for free under these circumstances. It isnโt perfect, though. The arts and artists need support, including those working behind the scenes.
Wild Women is not a formal group, and it is not funded. As a disabled carer, I do not have the time or energy to write endless applications, which means getting more creative with finding a solution.
Because of this, I am looking at ways to raise funds so that future guests and behind-the-scenes organisers can get paid. These may include:
single event charges
a sliding-scale subscription cost giving you access to the programme and other bonus material
a crowdfunded appeal
a Patreon account
pass-it-forward donations
sponsorship
I am actively seeking Wild Magic Makers to help make it possible. If you want to help or have any other magical ideas, please drop me a line here.
One final thing
(because, sadly it has to be addressed in light of all the toxic online commentary right now around womenโs spaces)
Letโs just be really clear here - Wild Women has, and always will be, an inclusive space where we can express ourselves authentically, without shame or apology, accepting ourselves and each other as we are and celebrating that beautiful, wild self.ย At the centre of our ethos is the fundamental belief that when we live in the world as ourselves, what we create from that place is more powerful and beautiful than we can ever imagine.
When we love and nurture our wild (inside and in the world around us), the most amazing things find roots to grow.
We do not define wild women by biological birth/gender assignation but by soul and spirit. In other words, if this space is one where you feel at home, then you are welcome.
Thatโs all for now, folks, but I will be back soon with more announcements - and I canโt wait to see you at the Wild Women Writing Salons.
